Wex Entry #3- Maximum Ride

[The prompt was to include the cliche "burn the midnight oil". Take note that I based this writing of my favorite book, Maximum Ride. I used what remembered from the book and wrote everything how I interpreted a scene from the book (From the Character Max's point of view) in my own words]

My legs burned and tried to drop anchors, but my hearts need for escape was stronger. My little sister was captured and I had to save her if was the last thing I'd do.
Finally I saw a cryptic, crumbling cliff. "Perfect" I thought to myself. I leaped with all my force and might off the dark cliff into the darker night. The fabric of my close stretched on my back, and tried to resist, but I won the night. My 15 foot wing span broke through my back and I soared through the sky exhilarated.

A smile of victory and achievement filled my face and I chanted to the stars. Four other dark figures met up with me. The rest of my family, Fang, Iggy, Nudge and Gazzy. We were ready to burn the midnight oil to find our beloved sister, Angel who was kidnapped by scientist, or as we call them "the white coats".

Fang, my brother, soared up to me as graceful as a hawk. He was quieter than the night.
"Where do you think the white coats took her?" He asked so silently, that just a regular human ear would just think it was a breeze passing by.
"Death Valley. Where the School is. That would be the only possible place she wold be." I responded. He nodded his head and dove slightly toward the ground, still keeping air.

We are the flock, 2% avian, and 98% human hybrids. We were being chased by Erasers, wolf and human hybrids.

Wex Entry #2- Bird Cage

The little creature was a brick of ice. It made no movement or noise. I didn't know if this was real. This creature was a still portrait in a museum, all you could do was stare at it trying to soak in the message. It was dead. All I remember was the rattling of metal and the disturbed tweets that cried out. Then suddenly, claws that were knives lashed out and struck the poor little thing. That tiny bird, a yellow canary that I oh so desperately tried to protect was now a dead stone. I remember it's last cry..." I did, I did see a putty cat!" That horrible claw that struck was like an old movie, completely black and white.
I failed. My only purpose was shattered. I, a simple bird cage couldn't save the old women's little yellow bird. My bars were icicles. Those sweet yellow feathers that were thin lemon skins, were now covered with a strawberry puree

Wex Entry #1- Spring Break

In the bright brown smooth hill of the Gorge Zoo in Adelaide Australia, was a magnificent kangaroo petting and feeding area. I slowly entered the area, each foot talking very careful steps to ensure that I wouldn't scare them. A white object lay ed there soaking in the sun. If I didn't know any better, I could have sworn it was a desert polar bear. It stood out beyond the rest, its plain white coat was almost as amusing as staring at a rainbow. It's eyes glanced toward me and start to rise, still keeping it's reddish eyes on me. The glowing red eyes would have looked demonic if they were placed on any other creature, but I just made this kangaroo look innocent. Then the funny thought of talking a picture of it popped in my head. Would it still have the red eye effect if I took a picture of it?
I could tell that the Kangaroo didn't want to be touched unless it got something in return. I pulled out some pasty white bread and threw it gently toward the roo. It took quiet big hops to the piece of bread. It's awkward shaped paw scooped up the bread and nibbled at it. Once it was done with it, the kangaroo hopped over toward to for more.
This time I reached down slowly to pet the ruffled fur of the kangaroo. Once my hand made contact with it, the roo drew itself away. I sighed an pulled out another piece of bread and held it up. It stood up tall, put its paw's on my stomach for support, and then reached it's head toward the bread.

Dear people who didn't believe me or thought it was a goat,
This PROVES that there are white kangaroos! They are super cool, and there are also white wallabies too!

Using our Herbs!

Wonder

Why are we growing an herb garden in the first place, much less cooking with the herbs we grow? What’s the point? How does cooking with our herbs answer the essential questions of the LULS project?

Growing an herb garden shows that we are taking responsibility and time to care for our herbs. In the end, our gift for that is making an awesome meal with our herbs! If we learn how to be responsible, we won't be so lazy to go out and recycle, save water and other resources. Plus we are eating healthier and organic. We can eat our food without worrying about eating food with pesticides! With all of this said, this answers the essential questions "Why aren't people living sustainably? And how can we convince them to do so?" People don't have the motivation to live sustainability, such as growing their own herbs mostly because they haven't been convinced as to why they should. They don't know that growing food is a benefit

Process

The plants my group and I grew were cayenne peppers and lemon basil. We regularly watered them until they seemed ready pick. My friend Livy and I wanted to make carne asada tacos so we knew we wanted to work together. Then we added our friend Gabe who wanted to make salsa. All of our recipes needed cilantro, so we knew that was going to be our main herb. The salsa also needed cayenne peppers, but the ones we harvested weren’t ready to be picked yet so we bought some grounded cayenne peppers instead. Unfortunately when we took the cilantro home on Thursday it died after a couple of days since we didn't cook until Monday. So we also had to buy that from the store.

Here is the "Taylor Gabe and Livy's Cooking Show!"

All in all, this was an amazing project. We all had doubts in our food, since we've never made anything like this before. And in my case, I've never cooked/made anything before without someone helping me 80% of the time. But we were wrong. Everything was delicious! The salsa was our biggest doubt, but it was actually the best one. We still have some salsa left over and have been eating every day since Gabe made it. As for the guacamole, it wasn't as good as the salsa because it was a little sour. As for the carne asada tacos, they were awesome! The carne asada which was marinated in lime, onions and red peppers was amazing. The only problem was the corn tortillas were very thin and bland. But other than that, it was so much fun and tasty. The funniest part was when I started peeling a lemon. I was paying to much attention trying to sound professional in front of the camera that I didn't realize that I was peeling a lemon. I didn't realize I was doing something wrong until I cut off a piece of peeled lemon.

Special thanks to my mom for the carne asada, and the guacamole recipe that she made herself.
For the tacos, I would like to thank Rubios. Rubios sells carne asada street tacos that I adore. I couldn't find their recipe online, but you can easily notice what’s in it if you look at one from Rubios.
