This is I Believe- Colin Powell
Colin Powell- The American I Believe In.
Out of the three essays I read, this one I found very interesting. Colin Powell's parents were immigrants to America and they had a very strong love for our country. Throughout the essay, he speaks his opinion of what is going on in America now. The part that struck me the most was when he mentioned the Brazilian exchange students that went to eat at a fastfood restaurant, but then later realized they couldn't afford it. The manager of the restaurant gave them the food free and told them that he is glad that they are here in America. I loved reading that to see that we are a very giving and caring country.
I chose this one because my Dad is from England and he always told me "You are very lucky to live here. I don't even think you know how lucky you are." I understood what he said, and I did agree that I was lucky, but I never truly got to experience why I was so lucky. From hearing stories from my Dad's life in England and from visiting other countries, I could finally see what my Dad meant. This essay fully displays the benefits we have of living in America.
